As an accompanying event to the International Conference on Gears 2025, the 6th International Conference on Gear Production is one of the most important biannual meeting points for the gear manufacturing industry both for technical experts and for decision-makers. Current challenges and solutions are presented and discussed, strongly emphasizing new potentials in productivity and/or the flexibility of gear manufacturing processes. High-level expertise will be ensured by our conference presidents: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Brecher, WZL and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Bergs MBA, MTI, RWTH Aachen University as well as Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karsten Stahl, FZG, Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Garching. They will take you through the conference program and moderate the sessions in 2025.

Do not miss an event outlining new trends for the gear producing industry of tomorrow. If you would like to shape the conference, hand in your presentation proposal due to the main event www.vdi-gears.eu until November 22nd, 2024.

Hand in your abstract now and embrace the future by submitting a lecture

The requirements in gear manufacturing are increasing dramatically which delivers a dilemma between productivity (scale) and flexibility (scope) of today’s technical solutions. On the one hand lead times need to be shortened in order to increase productivity. On the other hand, batch sizes are getting smaller and individual geometric features such as e.g. topological modifications push the need for intelligent support by manufacturing simulation and closed-loop approaches. The digitalization of the gear manufacturing processes promises high potential but also raises some challenges. In addition, new technologies evolve, that challenge the conventional manufacturing chain for gears.

The discussion in 2025 will focus on following topics, to which you are called handing in submissions:

  • Productivity increase by new concepts for machine and manufacturing processes
  • Main time or throughput time – balancing of productivity and flexibility
  • Alternative, resource-efficient gear manufacturing chains (e.g. additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, molding)
  • Gear Manufacturing in context of digitalization and artificial intelligence
  • Circular economy und sustainable gear production
  • New manufacturing methods for optimized gear and gearbox performance
  • New materials and heat treatment processes
  • Simulation of manufacturing processes
  • Innovative Methods and Measurement Principles for Quality Inspection of Gears

Hand in your abstract under the section four “Gear Production” under www.vdi-gears.eu until November 22nd 2024 or send an email to koerber@vdi.de

Important dates for authors

We would like to remind all authors of the important dates below.

  • Deadline for submission of abstracts:              November 22nd, 2024
  • Notification of acceptance:                                 End of February 2025
  • Final program available in:                                 May 2025
  • Deadline for submission of manuscripts:         June 6th, 2023
    (VDI-Bericht)
  • Deadline for submission of manuscripts
for peer review and publication in the
journal Forschung im Ingenieurwesen:            March 21st, 2025 (http://www.springer.com/journal/10010)

Based on the abstract, the program committee will decide on acceptance and on the order of presentation in the conference program.
All accepted authors must submit a full paper, either to be published in the conference proceedings (VDI-Bericht as an eBook) which have an official ISBN number or if you are opting for a voluntary peer review in the collection “Best of Gears 2025” from the Springer-Nature Journal “Engineering Research”.

Details for the voluntary peer review option: If your full paper meets all the requirements for publication in a scientific journal, you can voluntarily submit it to the Springer-Nature Journal “Engineering Research” (Q2, http://www.springer.com/journal/10010). The paper is then reviewed by international experts and, if successful, invited for publication within the collection “Best of Gears 2025”. The publication must be open-access. In the event of rejection by the reviewers, the paper will be included conference proceedings eBook (VDI-Bericht). Participation in the peer review process is voluntary. If the authors wish to submit their full paper to the journal “Engineering Research”, this must be indicated in the abstract.
