The international PIAE congress will take place in Mannheim from March 26 to 27, 2025.
(Düsseldorf, January 16, 2025)
Innovative materials, a growing proportion of recycled materials and new manufacturing processes are making the use of plastics in automotive engineering even more diverse and sustainable. Renowned experts from both OEMs and the supplier industry will discuss trends and long-term developments through to AI design at the leading VDI congress PIAE - Plastics in Automotive Engineering on March 26 and 27, 2025 (Mannheim, Congress Center Rosengarten). The event, which has been established for over 40 years, is thus returning to its traditional date in spring.
Leading International Congress for Plastics in Automotive Engineering
A special feature of PIAE is that the congress brings together decision-makers, engineers and developers across the entire value chain – from raw materials to production methods, from design to recycling. The large number of participants from OEMs underlines the importance of PIAE as a dialog platform for the entire industry. The range of 48 hand-picked keynotes and presentations, including more than a dozen OEM presentations, currently covers plastics technology applications in interiors, exteriors and powertrains. The accompanying exhibition provides the ideal setting for networking.
Current Topics with High Practical Relevance
In terms of efficiency, flexibility, functionality and surface design, hardly any other material can keep up with plastic in cars. This importance is reflected in the depth and breadth of the conference program. In particular, sustainability topics such as the circular economy, innovative bio-based materials and the use of recycled materials will play a central role. At PIAE, experts will also discuss new manufacturing processes and innovative materials, particularly with regard to the requirements of electric drives, as well as the digital future in the development and manufacture of plastic components.
Selected focus topics of PIAE 2025 include
- Lightweight construction: Innovative materials and manufacturing processes to reduce CO2 and increase efficiency
- Surface technology: Smart coatings and recycling to improve material quality
- Bio-based materials: lignin and bio-based plastics for more sustainable vehicle parts
- Electric drives: materials and technologies for long-lasting, high-performance batteries and electric drives
- Digital future: AI design and intelligent process monitoring for resource-saving production
Motor Show Parallel to the Congress
The motor show as an accompanying trade exhibition is also an indispensable part of PIAE. Around 70 national and international trade exhibitors will be showcasing innovative plastics technology solutions this year. Many opportunities for mutual exchange, including the PIAE Networking Party, will round off the two days of the event.
